Canary Islands

Lanzarote & Fuerteventura

Ideal for beach weddings, Lanzarote is located around 60 miles off the coast of North Africa, it is one of 7 Canary Islands. The climate is sub-tropical with temperatures around 25-30 degrees for the majority of the year. For this reason many choose this island for their weddings abroad.

The island was formed some 11 million years ago by volcanic eruptions, the last being Timanfaya around 300 years ago which has become one of the islands many attractions where it is possible to witness first hand, the incredible heat still being produced. The island is popular for many sports enthusiasts including scuba-diving, wind surfing, surfing, cycling and much more.

The beaches are safe and are recognised throughout Europe as being clean and beautiful. There are many places to visit, quaint little villages and rugged landscape to explore and there are still donkeys to be seen working in the fields and even the occasional camel.

Lanzarote’s architecture reflects the islands distinct beauty, which has been highly influenced by the renowned artist Cesar Manrique. Also, the Island has been declared a protected Biosphere by the Canarian Government.

With three thousand hours of sunshine a year, Fuerteventura is the closest Canary Island to the African coast with only 100km separating the ‘Punta de la Entallada’ from Cape Juby in Morroco and is the second largest (after Tenerife) of all the islands.

The weather conditions of Fuerteventura are very similar to Florida and Mexico which are on the same latitude, which make this the ideal wedding location. There is nowhere else in the Canary Islands with as many enormous sand dunes and long sandy beaches.

Fuerteventura is generally regarded as the oldest of all the Canary Islands and its strange contours come from various volcanic episodes. The last eruption occurred around 7,000 years ago so you’re pretty safe.

Fuerteventura is very popular for Water sports and every year hundreds of surfers, windsurfers and divers travel to Fuerteventura especially during the month of July when the island is host to the P.W.A world windsurfing speed and slalom event at Sotavento in the south.
